Loy Krathong Thai Style with Boon Brothers. It’s the annual celebration of Loy Krathong, a Thai festival for worshipping Buddha and or water gods. Loy Krathong translated means “to float ritual vessels or lamps. The festival takes place on the 12 the month in the traditional lunar calendar (when it is a full moon). The exact date changes yearly.
The Boon brothers love parties and festivals, wildly dancing. In that tradition, the children from the Boon Brothers school dress in unique clothes (like a carnival). They practice the special “Loy Krathong” dance, where all the kids form a vast circle and dance together a traditional Thai dance.
The Boon Brothers protest. They do not want to go to school and think their Thai Style Loy Krathong costumes are stupid. Funny, Kato Boon explains to his father that he can not attend school because he has Covid. He learns fast, but he is just tested for this. Papa admires his son for forming new sentences in English and his attempt to avoid school.
A fun day at school, Loy Krathong, is ok for the Boon Brothers.
Kato is mot corporation and is challenging to handle for the teachers. He does not want to stand in line or a stupid circle holding hands. Suddenly the funny little Kato Boon has an idea. Let’s start twerking in the middle of the process and make the whole school laugh, a new Loy Krathong dance. You can immediately hear a salvo of laughs from the children. The son of papa Bas Boon has talent. It’s a cross between John Travolta and Michael Jackson. Try Not to laugh is tricky.
In the afternoon, there is a parade for the festival. It’s now nighttime and time for the parents and the Boon kids to participate in the Loy Krathong ritual in Thailand.
The Boon family leaves to the center of the town to push some floating vessels into the water. Lots of happy children and many good wishes are what follow.
Remember, it’s Loy Krathong and not Loi Kotoy. A Kotoy in Thailand is a ladyboy.
